Pop-up 2026

Join us in the City of London on Friday 6 February 2026, for “Accounting Cafe Pop-up 2026”. Everybody is welcome.
A gathering with a difference that makes a difference.
We are gathering on Friday 6 February 2026 at St Ethelberga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace. This is a tiny jewel hidden among the towers of financial power in the heart of the City of London.
It will be a joy to welcome members from across our communities. You will meet educators from schools, universities and training companies, as well as representatives from the institutes and regulatory bodies. It’s an exciting and diverse mix of talents.
The big issues and challenges of our time are on the agenda, but with a focus on the practical implications for today’s classrooms. You will leave fizzing with ideas and new connections to help you bring renewed energy and enthusiasm to your work. And there will, of course, be plenty of opportunities to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, too.
Anyone attending is welcome to submit a lightning presentation proposal, although it is not required. We welcome proposals from anybody and particularly encourage new and less experienced educators to contribute. This is a fantastic opportunity to share your practice in a small, friendly, supportive environment. You will find information about how to submit your proposal below.

| Optional You may submit a proposal to make a lightning presentation during the day. There are limited places available, so book early to secure your slot. |
Lightning presentations consist of ten minutes for you to present and invite questions about a topic of your choice.
Traditionally, presenters take five minutes to present a quick overview of their topic and a further five minutes for questions and discussion, but you are free to use the allotted time as you wish.
Slides are optional, but if you use them, you may only present one introductory slide with your name and institution, plus a maximum of five slides for your presentation content. Slides will be reviewed for compliance with accessibility guidelines.
You will also have opportunities to discuss your presentation informally with others throughout the day.
We accept a range of topics so long as they fall within the broad domain of innovative teaching practices in accounting education. You might consider one or more of these areas:
- teaching approaches
- lesson or course sequencing
- developing learning outcomes
- effective ways to explain principles and concepts
- ways to engage students
- methods of assessments
- assignments
- in-class activities
The deadline for presentation proposals is Friday, 16 January 2026. There are limited presentation slots, and these are reviewed and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please contact Toby York with your ideas for a presentation or discussion. Alternatively, submit an outline of around 100–200 words by email to [email protected], inclusing the following:
- your full name
- institutional affiliation, if relevant
- the title of your presentation
- the practice you are sharing
- its impact (e.g., student, colleague feedback, other impacts)
- advice you would give others wishing to adopt it
- whether you intend to contribute an article in addition to your presentation
Our small editorial team undertakes a light touch review process that focuses on the extent to which the proposal meets the guidelines and has the potential to interest our audience.
We will notify you if your presentation proposal is accepted, typically within ten working days of submission. If your proposal is accepted and you are using presentation slides, you must submit these on or before 30 January 2026.
If we cannot accommodate your submission at this event, we will consider it for publication on the Accounting Cafe website. In this case, we will ask you to prepare an article that meets our Guidelines for Contributors.
We encourage presenters to write a short blog-style article to accompany their presentation. This provides an excellent opportunity to refine your thoughts and purpose, and serves as a valuable resource that you can refer to when you present.
Accounting Cafe will include your article in its newsletter, which is sent to more than 1,500 accounting educators worldwide. This significantly extends the reach and longevity of the work you put into your presentation.
Please read our Guidelines for Contributors.
